The use of landscape fabric for floor surfaces is common
in commercial greenhouses but a little-known alternative
for the hobbyist, until now. It is inexpensive, easy
to clean, drains well, stops weed growth and is surprisingly
durable providing you use a high quality commercial grade.
Covering the floor of your greenhouse will accomplish several
things: reduce pest and pathogens which reside in soil,
reflect additional light to your plants close to the floor
and decrease humidity by preventing soil moisture from
evaporating up from the warm greenhouse floor.
If you choose to use the floor covering as a weed barrier
only then here are some suggestions to cover the flooring
with, pea gravel, sand, crushed rock or mulch can be put
over the flooring for a more natural look. Keep in mind
that you will loose the additional light reflection from
the white fabric when you do.
